The goal of the campaign was to create a Short Film like narrative, reminiscent of the famous Christmas Commercial from the likes of Coca-Cola & John Lewis. A play-on-words title based on the hugely successful Netflix show “Inventing Anna” gives it a subtle, viral edge to the campaign.

The Christmas Spirit

There’s no other context in which narrative commercials thrive than the Christmas ad. We universally LOVE the tearjerkers by John Lewis, the iconic Coca-Cola ads and the long impact memories they imprint on viewers. To be honest - it’s something we DREAMEd of our whole careers (see what we did there ;) )

Making the Impossible HAPPEN

When Dreame invited us to pitch for their Christmas commercial, we said yes before we'd finished reading the brief. Then we finished reading the brief. The turnaround was TIGHT. Santa-covering-the-entire-planet-in-one-night tight. And the wish-list was ambitious to say the least: an air fryer, an upright vacuum, a robot vacuum and a beauty device, all living inside one story without the whole thing turning into a catalogue.
So we got to work. Locations scouted, talent cast, costumes fitted, sets built and the crew assembled. From all over the world may we add. The team pulled long days and longer nights, and somewhere between the first callsheet and the final colour grade, the impossible became reality.

Finding the story

We didn't want to make something that had been done a million times before. So many Christmas ads share the same warm living rooms and swelling strings, so we set ourselves a rule: build an immersive story, with REAL characters.
Our idea flipped the genre's most reliable icon - Santa himself. He is completely burnt out. The man is at the end of the longest shift in history and he gets caught mid-delivery by a little girl who decides he doesn’t look great and it’s maybe time to look after him for once. Their quiet 1am conspiracy gave us everything a Christmas film needs: humour, heart, and a reason for every product to appear. Each one becomes part of how she rescues him, and of their journey together, so the story carries the "commercial" part without it ever feeling forced.

00:24 - "in this brief moment Santa’s posture, accompanied by a lacklustre enthusiasm and speed with which he moves says a lot as he unpacks presents from his sack, placing them under the tree with little grace."

Emotions over Specs

No one ever cried over a battery life stat. We craft the emotions first, then let the product do its bragging in a subtle way, showcasing the Key Selling Points without the selling part.
