Marcin Zawadzinski
Director of Photography, Cinematographer, Gaffer & Assistant
The DP for when things get serious.
The TRIO origin stories are varied and entertaining, but Marcin's might be the best one. We stumbled across his and Aga’s YouTube channel, watched his work, thought "these guys seem lovely" and reached out. What followed was a friendship, a creative partnership and one of the best hires we never technically made.
The Technician
If cameras were cars, Marcin would be the kind of person who builds them from scratch in his garage and then tells you what's wrong with yours by listening to the engine. His party trick is being able to identify light temperature to the nearest 100 Kelvins by eye alone and assemble a full Arri Alexa rig with his eyes closed. If you don't know what any of that means - trust us, it's impressive. You want this man behind your camera. This guy has a working knowledge of cinematography so deep it occasionally makes the rest of us feel inadequate.
He also has a thing for vintage lenses. He assures us it’s not sexual.
The Artist
Marcin's roots are in documentary filmmaking. He has been a regular cinematographer for the Fryderyk Chopin National Institute since 2022, contributing to over 200 documentary shorts, interviews and concert films, as well as co-directing the short documentary Wanda i Józef Gosławscy: Sztuka Życia. In 2025 he was selected as one of the camera operators on Pianoforte - a HBO Documentary series directed by the Emmy Award-winning director Jakub Piątek.
His work with Projekt Pracownie - a Warsaw collective dedicated to preserving and celebrating the artisanal crafts of Poland earned him and the team the prestigious ‘Impuls Kultury’ award in 2023, the Masovian Award for Cultural Inspiration. The full-length documentary Wejdź i Porozmawiajmy o Sztuce, for which Marcin served as director, cinematographer and editor, stands as one of the collective's defining works. We all went to the premiere and many tears were shed. Beautifully done.
Since 2021 he has also been the filmmaker behind the creative world of a pretty big Polish rock band called Riverside. He has directed and shot music videos that have accumulated over 1.5 million combined views, as well as the mid-length documentary Riverside: Making of ID.Entity, for which he handled direction, cinematography and post-production in its entirety.
The Human
On set Marcin is the quiet professional - precise, reliable and completely unflappable. A perfectionist in the best possible sense of the word, meaning he won't let anything leave the camera that isn't absolutely spot on. However, he wouldn’t really fit into the TRIO team if he didn’t make you laugh while he's cooking. You can be sure, he will whisper something truly inappropriate down the headset, knows all the filmmaker insider jokes and has some class stories to share over the crafty. This man is truly humble about work that absolutely does not require humility. He also always checks in on Sal during her manic production set builds, which makes her cry.
Away from the set he is a talented musician, a bit of a gamer and the owner of an adorable doggo called Ramen. He also travels across Europe in a converted van (brother to our Van Dobby) which is both a romantic and chaotic way to see the world.
