Sally-Ann Dunn
Co-Founder, Creative Director, Production Designer & Editor
The woman with the final say on how everything looks, feels and flows. Inter-disciplinary creative, impossibly tasteful, and annoyingly always right.
Sally-Ann didn't exactly follow the conventional path into film. She graduated from the University of Exeter with a degree in Biology, specialising in infectious diseases - which, for the record, did not prepare the world for COVID but it does help us to cope with the chaos of a film set. Somewhere between the petri dishes and the pandemic, she picked up a camera and never looked back.
Co-Founder of TRIO Stories with Bart - high school sweethearts turned business partners. Either the best idea they ever had or a reality TV show waiting to happen. Probably both.
The Creative Brain
On set, Sally-Ann is what you might call a creative Swiss Army knife. As Creative Director she sets the visual language of every project - the look, the feel, the world we're about to immerse ourselves in. As Production Designer she builds that world from scratch. As a Director she shapes the performances within it. And if she thinks your costume is wrong, she will absolutely tell you - and she will be right. Her instinct for aesthetics is the kind you can't teach. You either see it or you don't and Sal sees it in 20/20 vision.
The Editing Wizard
"We'll fix it in post" is perhaps not her fave quote, but one she does employ from time to time. As TRIO's head editor she is the person who takes hundreds of hours of raw footage and finds the story hiding inside it. The pacing, the emotion, the moment you didn't even know you needed, that's her. The edit bay is her natural habitat and frankly it shows. This woman is DANGEROUS with a mouse and her editing software of choice (currently FCPX, but we're working on it).
The Human
In terms of being a human, Sal is really a conundrum. She'll be at a music festival one day, and in a hidden taqueria in a city she's never visited before the next. Now she's prepping for a HYROX. The character arc we really were'nt expecting. She is especially skilled at finding independent café's around the world and generally loves a party til 5am sesh. She also has a very SPECIFIC career ambition: to one day design a set in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. She is, to put it very mildly, a big fan.
The Record
Her short films How to Survive a Pandemic and The Night Shift both made waves in the Film Festival department, earning a Category Winner and a Finalist position at The Moment Invitational Film Festival and MANY more.
This woman is INCREDIBLE.
